So, it's back to the 1990s, which may seem a little strange to some. But Elixir was a retrospective tale when it was started. Like Grease was set in the 1950s, but was made in the 70s. By knowing what happened in that time, it is possible to give a wider view of the world as it existed in those times.
Of course, the characters involved in this particular time and space are not real. They were never meant to be. But there are times throughout the tale where realitiy meets fiction, and the perspective is clearer for the distance now possible. There are events that are true, and people who really existed, mentioned merely in passing, but giving an essence of the true time.
Elixir of Life is a tale of love, filled with the glory of newness, for a pair of youths who are trying very hard to remain in control of their own lives. If only it could be simple.
Electra Philips, our heroine, is the beautiful, and very talented, champion ice skater, who is destined for glory in the 1998 winter Olympic games. Having to cope with not only the pressure of her sport, but also the fierce nature of her over bearing father, she is overjoyed when she meets Vagan Elison, our Hero, and begins to fall in love for the first time in nearly 18 years of life.
Vagan is new in town. Having moved from Utah to San Francisco, he is out of his normal, safe, world. Worse still, within days of starting college, it has become clear that he is losing large quantities of his time, with no way of knowing what has become of it. The more it happens, the more he is sure that he has harmed others. Of course, meeting Electra will change his outlook on most things.
Unfortunately, there is someone who is not allowing Vagan to be free, someone who will harm both these two, and anyone else that may get in his way. He may be old, but he is strong, and he has his ways of getting what he needs.
